What Is Tantra?

For me, Tantra is the art of living consciously on all levels, including the sexual. When we connect sexually with the intention of expanding our consciousness, we use our senses to propel ourselves beyond the restriction of physical reality, and unite with the true essence of who we really are.

The great frustrations and pressures that most of us endure in our lives need to be balanced by deep pleasure that nourishes both the body and the soul.

Tantra teaches us to enhance our pleasure and to become mature lovers. The pleasure that we learn to give to ourselves and to our loved ones creates harmony in human relationships and ultimately in the whole world.

I love Tantra because it honors not just the light and the angelic, but also the dark and the demonic side of life. In Tantra, we learn to acknowledge and to deal with negativity with respect, courage and compassion, and to harness that power for the good of all concerned.

It has become clear to me that Tantra is one of the fastest and most effective ways to heal the body/mind separation and to elevate the spirit. Through Tantra, we can gain the sense of belonging and of self-esteem so vital to successful living. I have also noticed that the children of couples who practice Tantra are quite balanced and socially adjusted.
